Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!

Monday Magic Inspiring Blogs for You!

This post should just about make it to you for Monday – depending upon which time zone you live in!  My brain fog has continued, several painsomnia nights later and an eye/sinus infection have left the blog low on the to do list.  Actually using the computer screen has been a chore with head and eye pain…..then add in my almighty cock up with my drugs and a few hours of pregabalin withdrawal – you get the picture!!

This week my nephew turned 8 and celebrated with a Laser Quest party for 15 little live wires.  This crumbly Auntie didn’t manage the trip (for the second year running)….but I did manage to make his birthday cake and sent it with hubby, the best Uncle in the world on that day.  For a simple, yet really effective cake that appeals to any kid, young or old, who likes sweets….make a “box of chocolates/jellies/sweets”!  If you would like a post with instructions leave me a message in the comments. One of the worst parts of chronic illness is having to cancel plans for special occasions when symptoms take over.  However watching Strictly Come Dancing with my Mum was probably slightly more relaxing than the aftermath of the party and the subsequent present frenzy!!  I have to just say here – I loved Stacey Dooley’s tango…you won’t know what I’m talking about unless you are a UK Strictly fan!

I am currently writing another post for you following a special Accessibility day at Gatwick airport last week and probably the biggest excitement to come out of this has been our purchase of an electric wheelchair.  More of this to come.  Meanwhile I have caught up with some blogs today as my vision has improved (have you used that chloramphenicol ointment – eughhh, gunky eyes and stings like hell!) and I hope that you enjoy these posts as much as I have.  I plan a Christmas blogs post, but have included the advent calendar one here as you might want one sooner rather than later!  I have been a very lucky girl and was bought a beauty calendar by my gorgeous friend Holly – lovely surprise gift….I will fill you in on the gifts as I open them!

Sit back, grab a drink and enjoy!

Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You

Welcome back to Pain Pals for what I hope will be a great week following a fantastic weekend! Those of you who have read my previous couple of posts will know that our lovely girl has her German exchange partner staying – an equally lovely young man of 15 and about 6 feet 3!!  We had a house full on the first night as we hosted all the English girls and German boys & girls to help break the ice; and then when hubby arrived home Saturday evening having collected from ice skating & bowling, I couldn’t help thinking “Bloody hell, my new car really is big” as the front door opened and a stream of teens came in.

There were 16 in total – and no it turns out that the car isn’t really a Tardis – but they were followed by a steady stream of takeaway deliveries from 5 outlets.  I can’t remember when, if ever our doorbell has rung so many times on a Saturday night! I just commented on an EDS Facebook group that a huge positive for us this week has been to see our normally angst ridden teen turn into a group organiser and hostess.  We had only been expecting 6 back on Saturday, but in order to avoid some breakdowns within the group our girl sorted them all (and took over our lounge ha, ha, ha) with tact and diplomacy to ensure everyone had a good evening.  Teenage relationships can be so tricky at the best of times, but throw in different languages, exchange partners paired who ordinarily wouldn’t be in the same friendship groups, one all girls school & one mixed sex, and the probability for issues is huge!  It has been interesting to see that the mixed sex pairings – like our lovely girl and lovely German boy – have been less problematic than the all girls – teenage girls and friendships equals another blog post entirely methinks!  The mixed sex group – 4 couples – went to Thorpe Park Fright Night on Friday and had a fantastic time. Not my cup of tea but they loved it.

IMG_3477As for me I am officially exhausted, typing one handed whilst in a sling again, but am officially one very proud mum having watched my girl blossom before my eyes.  Some might say turning into a chip off the old block – and even her eldest brother commented that the social awkwardness she professes to have is just not evident for the rest of us.  Today they have all gone to Brighton – the Pavilion, fish and chips, the beach and the lanes. Whilst the fatigue and dislocation have taken their toll, I have found some more fabulous blog posts for you to enjoy.

So grab a cuppa, kick you heels up and sit back to read some fab pieces, all very different but all inspiring.  I particularly love the Lush products review from Katie Cupcake and the beautiful piece about friendship from Happiness and Food. Enjoy!

Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You

Monday Magic

Here we are a week into August – and it turns out that what my grandma used to say is true – time really does move faster the older you get!  Where has the year gone? In fact where have all the years gone?

I have just taken up the Chair of the alumni committee for my old school – whilst I’ve been on the committee for a few years the shoes I’m filling feel enormous as they were previously worn by my old chemistry teacher – one of my first official roles will be at the 30 year reunion for my own year group in September.  A couple of us are currently tracking down classmates – stalking people on Facebook, Linked In etc according to my kids – and it has unleashed so many memories.

Can it really be 30 years since we left school?  Some of this group know that I am now disabled, but it is going to be a really big deal attending this event in my wheelchair and answering the questions!  I think when I give a little speech at the beginning standing up, I might say that the wheels are to accommodate my high heels!

The funny thing is that despite all the physical changes in my body, the family I now have, the career I loved and lost, the exhaustion of life with chronic illness, inside I can still feel that 18 year old.  My own 18 year old just looks at me, shakes his head and tells me I am old – ha, ha, ha, none of us believe it will ever happen do we?

So what better way to get over the feeling of being past it, than to find some inspiring blog posts to inject some zest today!  Kick off your shoes, grab a cuppa and settle down for some fantastic reads – I hope you enjoy this week’s gems as much as I have!

Monday Magic – Inspirational Blogs for You!

Happy Monday, Pain Pals!

A levels finished last week for the sixth form student and that meant another end to an era marked by Prom hosted at the Queen’s Stand, Epsom Downs.  The preparations weren’t quite as intricate in our house as they were in those of friends with daughters – hair, false nails, spray tans, pencilling the eyebrows just right, different dresses for every girl…the list goes on!  A new suit was purchased along with matching tie and shoes……and he did have a haircut the day before which he says was coincidence, but I do wonder!  Anyway he scrubbed up pretty well and the Charlie’s Angel style pics are typical – the girls and the boys posed in very different ways.  I don’t understand the sticking out the bum thing that seems to have the replaced the fish pout.  Must be getting old….

Charlie's Angels
Charlie’s Angels – really?!

So only one child left at school now, and she is gutted that the student engineer is coming to live back at home for his 4th year – “I thought I was going to have the house to myself, Mum!”.  He is currently balancing the cost of living in London with the savings of moving home but living with us….not to mention us having to cope with having him back again full time.  We love him dearly, but the mess, the fussy eating, the mood swings – he is such a drama queen!!  I am well aware that I seem to be describing a toddler, who is actually 21!!

Monday MagicMy writing has been a bit non existent this week, but I have found another 10 blogs that are new to Monday Magic and I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have.  It never fails to surprise me just how many wonderful writers there are out there in the chronic community and how we all support each other.  But these posts are equally inspiring for everyone, ill or not – I love to find inspiring blogs, about different subjects, through link up parties that I might never ordinarily find.  So sit down with a cuppa and enjoy getting to know some new bloggers!

Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!

The start of a new week and I wake up to yet another terrorist attack in London – following a dreadful week for our capital with the fire in Grenfell tower, west London.  My thoughts go out to all involved.

Monday Magic

Duncan has been away this week with 60 year 6 children, aged 10 & 11, on the annual French trip to Paris.  I gather it was very hot and very busy.  This has meant that the adult kids have had to be my carers – not sure who it is worse for.  As anyone suffering with dysautonomia – malfunctioning of the autonomic nervous system – knows, this heat plays havoc with us.  My breathing has been worse and the pooling of blood has turned my hands and feet to a delightful shade of blue/red every day.  So yours truly managed a truly spectacular faint in the shower cubicle, from which I had to extracted by the student engineer and lovely girl.  Not really what any mum wants her 21 year old son to have to do!!  The bruises are stunning – Ehlers Danlos skin combined with steroids gives great results for all injuries!

Today is my birthday…we won’t count the years….and I can’t quite believe that another year has passed.  I would write more but I am being called to get ready – my lovely parents are taking Duncan and me out for lunch.  So in my usual Monday fashion, I invite you to make a cuppa, kick off your shoes, sit back and enjoy some more inspiring blog posts from my friends over at Chronic Illness Bloggers!

Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!

Monday MagicTime for some Monday Magic!  I hope that you have all had a great weekend – I think it was Mothers’ Day in the USA, so hope all you mums were spoilt rotten.  I was asked by Evie, the lovely Zebra Mom, to take a selfie wearing red and to post it to spread the word about Vascular Ehlers Danlos Disease.  We had a very rare moment in our house and I managed to persuade everyone to do a selfie…all 5 of us in one shot!!

I am delighted to be still be finding different blogs from the Chronic Illness Bloggers community to introduce here – please remember that just because we are chronically ill doesn’t mean that we don’t blog about other things too!  So sit back with a cuppa and enjoy exploring some great blog reads with me….
