Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!

Very little preamble today PainPals – I’ve been battling the onset of a migraine all weekend and it finally broke free this morning, leaving me moribund on the sofa.  My surrogate furbaby Chester apparently kept me company for a couple of hours snuggled up next to me – although I had no idea!  You’ve had my post about books and reviewing already today so I will plunge straight in with some blogs for you.

Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You! #PickledBlogs

Hello all! It has been another scorcher of a week in the UK and across Europe the temperatures are set to reach record breaking highs.  The lovely girl arrived home from her 2 weeks in Greece in the early hours of Sunday morning and whilst we got little sense out of her yesterday, she seems to have had a great time.  Her hair is even blonder, she is sporting a very healthy glow and has been swimming daily – including a midnight dip in the sea on Friday.  Oh to be sixteen (nearly) again!

Pickled Blogs Monday Magic

I joined Em Linthorpe’s Facebook group Pickled Blog Project recently and meant to join in with the fun tag post questions, but haven’t got round to it ……until now!  So I thought that I would change things about and share my pickled answers here on Monday Magic.

How to play

  1. Answer the questions.
  2. Link back to Em’s post : Pickled Blogs Project
  3. Use the hashtag #PickledBlogs on any social media shares so everyone can find your post, and in the title of the blog post too if you like.
  4. Feel free to tag some of your blogging friends at the end.

Wm will add the links of everyone who plays along, so please shout up when you have completed it!

Pickled Blog proj

The questions

1. What is your favourite pickled item to eat?

2. Tell us about a time you were in a “bit of a pickle” (a tough situation)

3. Pickle Rick, a character from Rick and Morty, is a personal hero of Em’s. Who are your heroes?

4. If you had to live in a jar, what three items would you take with you?

Questions:

What is your favourite pickled item to eat?  It HAS to be pickled onions – but I can’t eat onions of any sort now (gut problems has meant I have had to follow a restricted diet) – I used to love the huge dish that our local fish and chippy would give us when we ate in!

Tell us when you were in a bit of a pickle – going back just a few years(!) to our wedding and my lace dress that needed something underneath, to maintain my dignity.  Mum decided that she would make me an underdress but she didn’t want to put a zip or fastenings on that would show, so having a light bulb moment she stitched me into it.  This was great until we were at the hotel reception and yours truly needed to nip out to the little girls’ room – only to find mum had stitched my dress to my tights and knickers, so limited champagne for me for the rest of the day!

Who are your heroes? Hmmm…..Dame Cicely Saunders (founder of the hospice movement) and I’m rather fond of Marvel’s Daredevil!

If you had to live in a jar, what 3 items would you take with you? Now Amelia over at You Can Always Start Now assures me this jar is already furnished……so I am assuming I have unlimited wifi to set up Netflix & Amazon as my number one, second my Kindle crammed full of classics and contemporary favourites, and finally – well frankly I am struggling to choose between chocolate or wine.  I am sure that says something about me!!

I’m not going to tag anyone in particular – so please feel free to join the fun!  I hope you have enjoyed my answers and now will sit back and enjoy this week’s selection of fab blog posts. They are really varied covering yoga, friendship and being an adult,  finishing with a very talented dog called Sasha who writes beautifully and looks stunning too.

Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!

We continue to have our own mini heat wave here in the UK and it really feels like summer.  The queues of fans gathered overnight for the opening day of the tennis tournament at Wimbledon, and the rowing regatta at Henley takes place later this week – sales of strawberries and Pimms will be at a high as the sun continues to shine.  Who needs the Med?  I know it is all likely to go wrong as soon as the children break up for their summer holidays, but it is lovely whilst it lasts!

Summer time pin

Talking of the Med, hubby is looking like he has been abroad from his deepening tan.  He may have had a week in and around Paris with the school, but he has built up most of his suntan from the rounds of different sports tournaments that he has accompanied the children to – golf, athletics, rounders, football, cricket – and not forgetting the dog walks with our surrogate boys, Chester and Prince. IMG_1740 Four years ago we would never have dreamt that life would have changed so much as hubby was driving miles to work six days per week.  Yet here we are, hubby at home as my full time carer, a house husband (he hasn’t quite got the hang of housework – cleaner to be engaged!) and a sports teacher.  We may be considerably poorer in a monetary sense – but I have never known him to be so relaxed or fulfilled!  The dogs and the kids adore him and rumour has it that he scored a goal in the staff v year 6 football match this morning.  He probably won’t be able to walk this evening…..

DhF2KRyX0AEYf3B

The lovely girl was there to witness her dad playing football as she starts her second week of work experience at her old primary school! She spent last week at an architecture firm in London and spent some time working on a float that is set to grace the streets of London during the Pride weekend.  My eldest has turned down my invitation to accompany me to the Henley regatta in favour of a weekend at London Pride with his mates….mum or mates….hmmm, tricky decision!!  The middle one is currently in Glasgow at a music festival – his sister has evidence from some badly shot videos and photos sent to her on Snapchat.  Meanwhile I have managed to spend a couple of hours with just the dog…..bliss!!

This weekend saw the end to a wonderful bloggers group that I am proud to have been a part of for 18 months.  We have been a tight knit group, small  and very supportive of each other and I have made some great online friends, some whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the Bloggers’ Bash.  This week’s Monday Magic is dedicated to the Big Up Your Blog group – particularly Suzie and Em – thank you!  These are some of the lovely people I have been in touch with regularly….enjoy!

Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!

A bit late in the day, but I hope those of you in the UK are having a fantastic bank holiday weekend and enjoying this wonderful weather.  I managed my scheduling for Chronic Illness Bloggers this morning, and then the heat got the better of my POTS – that is postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome – and bahm, over I went.  The shoulder was already dislocated so that wasn’t a problem, but the student engineer didn’t manage to engineer the wheelchair sufficiently under me and I slid straight onto the floor.  My lovely old dog, who always knows when I’m not quite right but hasn’t got the true makings of a helper dog due to his own autistic traits, did his bit to bring me round – dog breath probably rivals the smelling salts of Victorian ladies any day!

Monday Magic Inspiring Blogs for You! 7th May

But all is well and this zebra managed a trip to our local park in the sunshine this afternoon….even walking some of the way!  Dogs walkers were out in force, alongside families and lots of smiles.  One of the nicest groups we saw was an antenatal/NCT type – easy to spot from the cluster of very self conscious new dads standing up and holding tiny new babies and the mums sitting on the grass with enormous bags under their eyes, but equally enormous smiles.  There were several young men looking like they were handling rugby balls, with a look of mild panic mingling with joy – the “help, what am I supposed to do with this little pink squirming human?”.  Funny how a home has to be vetted to have a new puppy, yet a new baby doesn’t come with a manual….and neither does a teen or a twenty something!

One zebra, with supplies, ready and raring to go

Exams are under way – the student engineer is nearly no longer requiring the “student” moniker and is about to sit his second “final” exam.  GCSEs are starting in earnest for the lovely girl, having had the obligatory “muck up day” last week involving hundreds of rubber duck, balloons and the odd water melon. Don’t ask!

This week there are some old friends back on my blog list, plus some bloggers who are completely new to me – like Erin at QuintessentiallyMe and Carrie Anne Lightley.  There are some delicious looking brownies, some mindset tips and some flash fiction.  So sit back, with a glass of something tasty and enjoy!

Monday magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!

It it the beginning of a new week and time to find some more fantastic blog posts for you.  Here at PainPals HQ, I am in full throes of prep for my little visit to hospital tomorrow – and am trying to get ahead with preparations for a 3 tier unicorn cake that a little girl has asked me to make for her party next weekend.  It is amazing just how definite a 6 year old can be about what they want!!  My unexpected day trip tomorrow has thrown a spanner in the works and I am really hoping that I won’t feel too rough on Wednesday for making some Unicorn sparkle.

Monday Magic Inspiring Blogs for You! 12 March

I am sure that you have had quite enough of the babble about family PainPals over the last couple of days, so I will launch straight into our blogs for the week and a post entitled “No Monday Morning Blues” seems a perfect place to start!  Yesterday I wrote about Mother’s Day, but I want to draw your attention to a heartfelt post about World Childless Week.  There are a couple of reviews here for you, something for March: MS Awareness month and not forgetting that this week celebrates St Patrick’s Day – Casey the College Celiac has delivered us some fab treats meaning that no one need miss out!

Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You!

Monday Magic 29 JanGood morning on the last Monday of January!  Our week has passed in a flurry of parents’ evening, book club, Burn’s night celebrations and not forgetting our son’s better half being offered a great new job.  Funnily enough we haven’t had any news on the politics student other than a text about football scores – oh, the life of a first year student!

Parents’ evening was like a speed dating event…five minutes per teacher and when the bell rings get up and run!  Not sure the computer goblin automatically churning out slots on the online booking system had allowed for mass movement between the hall and the library, and he hadn’t allowed for a wheelie like me – although hubby just used the wheelchair to barge through other parents!  For Burn’s night we were greeted by a piper resplendent in kilt , sporan and full regalia.  How is it that one set of bagpipes can sound as loud as the  (what is the collective term for bagpipes – haggis? sporan? noise?) whole Edinburgh Tattoo?  It certainly had the desired effect of moving guests swiftly from the lobby to the dining area, but I think the ladies serving whisky must have been deaf and in need of a few drams by the time the meal was served.  Slightly disappointing this year was the lack of kilts….couldn’t persuade hubby into one!

Our book club read the new Emma Donoghue book The Wonder this month – review to come – and as usual we had lively debate from the actual book, to last month’s book again (The City and The City by China  ……..) which is being made into a TV series starring David Morrisey, to the current BBC TV series McMafia and Hard Sun.  Amongst the blog posts that I have for you this week is an online book club aimed specifically at those who would find it hard to get out of the house to attend one.  This could be spoonie friends, elderly, young/new mums….anyone who enjoys a good book.  Talking of which, I am taking part in a blog tour this week so will just drop a flier in for it – more info later this week.Review Tour

I am sitting here Nil By Mouth and have a hot date with a gastroscope this afternoon, so it does pain me somewhat to invite you to pick up your coffee…..but I will do just that and encourage you to kick off your shoes, sit down and enjoy some great posts from some lovely bloggers.  Maybe I will give the pilates a go whilst you down your caffeine….
